The above shown parts are the volute liners for slurry pumps. For smaller slurry pump models, the volute liner and the throatbush are one-piece structure. For bigger models like pumps with discharge 4--inch and bigger, the volute liners and the throatbush are separate. The lining is also one of the flow parts of slurry pumps. It forms a pump chamber with the front and rear liner to liner to where the slurry will flow through them.
For most hard metal pumps the volute is normally in one solid piece. This design is the most cost effective in manufacturing and there are no practical requirements for splitting the volute into two halves. Some rubber lined pumps also use a solid volute, especially for the smaller sizes, where it is more practical and economic to use a solid volute.
